The NEYPVAL team conducted a health assessment survey during this event. The survey assessed the accessibility of healthcare in the surrounding Nepali community. 180 surveys were completed with the help of our community ambassadors. Stay tuned to see what data we have gathered and what we can learn about our community.

We are two years into this pandemic and things seem to be getting better. This has only been possible because we have taken precautions and gotten the vaccines to protect ourselves and our community from Covid-19. However, some of us have yet to get the Covid-19 vaccine or its booster.
It might be because of time constraints, or not being able to get an appointment. Or, maybe, because you had a dose of a different vaccine overseas, and didn’t know if you could get one of the boosters available in America.
This was the case for a husband and wife who had just moved to Seattle from Nepal. They have taken their first dose of COVOVAX in Nepal but didn’t know if they could get a booster in Seattle. They reached out to NSS, and with the help of the NEYPVAL team and King County Public Health, we found out that they were approved to receive the Moderna booster after getting their COVOVAX shot in Nepal. During our recent vaccination event, we were able to get them their booster shots and update their vaccination cards.
Shubhechha Shakya and Sakar Sakya, our administrative assistant and community ambassador, also got their booster shots during our vaccination event. In total, we were able to get 8 people vaccinated during our 2-hour camp held at Sanatan Dharm Mandir on March 19th, in partnership with Sanatan Dharm Mandir, WA Department of Health, King County Public Health, and the CDC Foundation.
This month we are holding a vaccination event as well as a Tech literacy event. If you are still waiting to get your COVID-19 vaccine, join us on March 19th, or if you need help navigating through My Chart, Zoom, accessing your electronic vaccination card, or have any other queries, RSVP and join us on March 20th!

We made this video because there was a lack of education around using home testing kits in Nepali language catered for our community. This was made during the initial phase of government policies providing free home testing kits around the second-third wave of COVID spike.
If you are showing COVID-19 Symptoms or have been exposed to someone who has COVID, you can use the At Home Covid testing kit to check if you have it. If you do test positive for it or test negative and are still showing symptoms, please contact your health care provider!
We have also made an instruction manual in Nepali to provide information for Nepali-speaking people and work towards health literacy.
InstructionssssPut your order in now to be processed end of January! We know we will feel safer with home tests on hand!

Namaste,
This past year has been hard, to say the least. We have been told to be cautious and to wear masks, keeping ourselves six feet away from people, and for a social community like ours, this has been even harder.
The pandemic has brought adversities such as unemployment, delay in education, loss of businesses, and for some of us the loss of our loved ones.
We have had to live in fear thinking about how we might contract the COVID-19 virus. The cloud of mixed emotions of frustration and uncertainty have made our lives difficult. Some of us have been severely affected by this pandemic and have contracted the COVID-19 virus. Yet, we as a community have stayed strong and have persevered.
We became hopeful again when we became eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. For us, the vaccine has become our hope of survival, the hope of finally being with our loved ones, the hope of getting back to our businesses, and the happiness of resuming our somewhat normal lives.
Slowly, businesses have started to remove their “CLOSED” signs from their front door and schools are starting to reopen.
Most of us have been vaccinated now and we’ve noticed that things are starting to resume. Now, we have faith that things may get better.
Although the fear of getting the COVID-19 virus has subsided, we still must continue to take precautions. All of us are still not vaccinated. Therefore, we urge you to be proactive as prevention is better than cure! You are not alone in this and we are here to help you.
Together, we can be a healthy, thriving community.
If you or someone you know have any questions about the COVID-19 and/or COVID-19 vaccine, please contact us at [email protected]. We will reach out to our Nepali health professionals and try to get an answer to you at our best capacity.

Nepal Rising has been actively involved in mitigating critical issues in Nepal. Recently, with the rampant rise of COVID-19 cases and lack for healthcare infrastructure, Nepal Rising has started a fundraiser to immediately provide much needed relief. You can visit their fundraiser page and read more about their current efforts.

Help us provide 400 critically ill patients with life-saving oxygen in Nepal
The second wave of COVID-19 virus has struck Nepal with deadly force. Every day, more than 7,000 new cases are reported and the death toll is growing. With less than 1,500 ICU beds and 600 ventilators currently available to service a population of nearly 30 million people, the health system is already overwhelmed. Hospitals are already turning patients away due to a lack of bed space and oxygen. The government estimates that an additional 48,000 cylinders are needed to meet the current demand.
Local community-driven isolation centers are providing a critical link in the frayed health-care system in Nepal. Covid patients needing oxygen are kept under supervision of a doctor until a hospital bed is available, buying precious time for patients battling Covid.
Nepal Rising is working with CoVID Alliance for Nepal, non-profit CREASION and other grassroots partners on the ground to support community isolation centers and hospitals requiring oxygen concentrators and cylinders.

We have only 2 weeks to get 100 life-saving oxygen cylinders to critical Covid patients in Nepal
You can help us obtain critical oxygen and save lives.
Please visit their fund-raiser page to get more information and if you have the resource, please help by donating to the cause.

Rajesh Shrestha, an active member of Nepal Rising , Seattle is also a member of Nepali Community Health Board.
Nepal Seattle Society, along with other local Nepali organizations, has submitted a letter of plea to WA senators to facilitate COVID-19 vaccine, medical equipment & supplies relief aid for Nepal. We, the residents of WA state, are fortunate enough to have medical resources and vaccines available to us. However, as we have come to know via media and first hand experience, the situation in Nepal is dire because of rampant rise in COVID-19 cases.
Time is of essence, money alone can’t solve the problem, and we need to mobilize local professionals and local leaders with basic equipment like oximeters, thermometer and oxygen concentrators. Local professionals like Biomedical Engineers can fix the non- functional oxygen plants and ventilators in the health care facilities. But international development partners including UN agencies who are working are not able to mobilize these local resources and are not able to procure those minor equipment and supplies on time simply because of their complex procurement policies.”
Voice of a local development professional from Nepal.
Per the World Health Organization, today, on May 11, the COVID-19 positivity rate in Nepal is 44% with reported new 9,483 cases and 250 deaths. Some heart-wrenching statistics:
Hence, we collectively request our representatives to do their best to provide urgent aid to Nepal. The letter sent to our representatives can be found below:

WASHINGTON COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility is now all ages 16 and older . Please follow this link for more information about vaccine prioritization guidance and allocation framework : https://www.doh.wa.gov/Portals/1/Documents/1600/coronavirus/SummaryInterimVaccineAllocationPriortization.pdf
To schedule your COVID-19 vaccine, please follow this link : https://vaccinelocator.doh.wa.gov/ . So far, more than 5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the state of Washington. We are in the right path to have a good percentage of vaccinated population which will help us get back to our normal lives soon.
People are considered fully vaccinated ≥2 weeks after they have received the second dose in a 2-dose series (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna), or ≥2 weeks after they have received a single-dose vaccine (Johnson and Johnson (J&J)/Janssen).
Even you are fully vaccinated, you still need to take precautions. Here’s a quick guide from the CDC for the use of masks and your activities based on your COVID-19 vaccine status: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/pdfs/324153_choosingSaferActivities11.pdf
The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) resumes use of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine across the state. This decision is based on recommendations from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup, as well as careful consideration and close review by DOH.
DOH has shared COVID-19 Vaccine facts as part of ongoing efforts to dispel rumors and provide factual information:

On April 25th 2021, we collaborated with Gurudwara Singh Savha of Washington along with Health Point and Public Health Seattle & King County. We were honored to be part of event hosted by Gurudwara this weekend in their Renton location.
One of our community members getting Pfizer vaccination.
The main goal of the event was to get as many people as possible to get their first dose of Coronavirus vaccine. The place was very organized and there were lots of volunteer making the process as smooth as possible for people who signed up to get their vaccines. We were able to reschedule many people for their second dose as well. We were really happy to see younger generation taking advantage of this opportunities sooner.
Our volunteers were available to help with translation and data collection.
We had about 55 people who came by just from our community. We continue to spread the words through social media and word of mouth. As a volunteer we were able to help not just our community but also be able to help other community as well. All of the volunteer did an amazing job, and all of our end goals was to get as many people vaccinated as possible and end this pandemic together.
We’d like to thank all the organizations and individuals who worked tirelessly to make this event successful. We couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you!

Vaccination-Registration-GuideThe Washington COVID-19 Immigrant Relief Fund is a disaster relief program for Washington state’s low-income immigrant residents and their households. The program uses federal CARES Act funds to provide a $1,000 cash grant to eligible individuals. It is meant for residents unable to access federal aid and state unemployment insurance based on their immigration status. Because this is considered to be disaster assistance due to the COVID-19 pandemic – a declared disaster, this payment should not be considered as part of the public charge rule when people apply for a green card. This program is supported and funded by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services.
You can apply for a $1000 one-time direct payment and receive it in check or gift card. This application closes on May 15th.
