The Professional Development Committee(PDC) helps connect experienced professionals to anyone who would benefit from the mentoring.

Goals

  • Help new community members foster in the professional setting with guidance from established professionals across various industries
  • Provide an avenue to connect professionals to anyone who seeks guidance
  • Help the mentees develop into a successful professional and future mentors in the community

  1. Who are we?
    • We are a group of community members trying to leverage our experience and  talent to help grow new talent.
  1. Who is a mentor? What are their qualifications?
    • Anyone with professional experience and expertise in a specific field and is willing to share and help others grow.
  1. Who is a mentee? What are their qualifications ?
    • Anyone who is willing to learn.
  1. How can I get involved as a mentor ?
    • Sign up to be a mentor here
  1. Where should I start as a mentee?
    • Decide what you want a mentor for. eg: Professional growth, changing
    • professional field, learning new skills etc.

  1. Do I need to pay to participate in this program?
    • No, this program is free of charge.
  1. I’ve just signed up as a mentee/mentor, for how long should I wait to get matched with a mentor/mentee?
    • We will reach out to you within 1 week of submitting the form
  1. How does the process work?
    • Mentor and Mentee will sign up to the program using the online form.
    • NSS Professional Committee coordinator will reach out to you for next steps within a  week of submitting the form.
    • Based on mentor, mentee availability we will schedule the first meeting.
    • After the first meeting, it’s mentor and mentee responsibility to set up future meetings based on their own schedule and requirements.
    • NSS Professional Committee will collect feedback quarterly from mentors and mentees to get input on the program as well as their progress.
  1. How often can I contact my mentor ?
    • Once your mentor is finalized, you can work with your mentor to set up a cadence based on your requirements. The committee recommends at least once a month meeting between the mentor and mentee.
  1. Will I get a job after participating in this program ?
    • No. The purpose of this program is to support your personal and professional development.
  1. Can I request a new mentor if I don’t like the one selected for me by the committee?
  1. Can a mentor/mentee request to end the partnership?
  1. What types of questions should I ask my mentors?
    • Their professional experience
    • Their background, how did they start, where did they start
    • What motivates them?
    • How-tos…eg: How to update my resume, how to talk to my manager about my promotion etc.
    • Whatever you want to learn.eg: I want to learn java skills, I want to learn management skills.
  1.  What types of discussions should I have with my mentee?
    • We recommend the following:
      • Discuss on their career goals
      • Expectations from the partnership
      • Skill-related topics
      • Leadership related topics
  1. How to be a successful mentor/mentee ?
    • Set a goal.
    • Know what to ask. Prepare a list of items to discuss during the meeting.
    • Set action items and deliverables for the next meeting.
    • Keep track of time and your personal development.

    • Absolutely, yes.

By participating in the mentoring program conducted by NSS (Nepal Seattle Society), you agree and consent to voluntarily participate in the mentoring initiative by NSS and agree to the following:

NSS reserves the right to exclude anyone from becoming a mentor or mentee participant should they choose not to accept this Agreement.
