Traditional music: Dashain Dhoon by Sushil Bogati

“Dhoon” means music in Nepali. This particular “dhoon” is a very popular tune that is played throughout the dashain festival all over Nepal. Sushil is a talented local artist. NSS would like to congratulate Sushil for his recent marriage.

Jyotsana is a talented Nepali poet from Seattle.

New to Seattle, Selista is performing her first dance at the NSS event. Please welcome our new talent!

Kids Dance ‘Kalilo taama lai’ by Ravi and Santosh Sharma

Ravi and Santosh are lovely twins. This is their 2nd dance performance in Seattle. Please welcome our youngest talents!

Modern Song “Jaha Jaun” by Sunil Joshi

Talented singer Sunil is part of Seattle based Nepali POP band “Naulo”. The other member is Bhusan Khanal. They have released their first album “Sapanima” in 2000 which was sold around the world. This is a song from their upcoming 2nd album.

Story Part 1 ‘Katha’ by Sita Gurung, Tsering Lama, Prem Gurung.

This is the story of ‘Maila’ who is coming to the US to make his fortunes. His family is performing farewell rituals before his departure from Nepal.

Kids Dance ‘Bye Bye’ by Kumar Gurung Nessenbaum

Kumar, son of Sita Gurung, is performing his first dance at the NSS event. Please welcome our young talent!

Pop Song ‘Chari Udyo Badal Choona Lai’ by Pushpa Shrestha

New to Seattle, Pushpa is giving his first performance in Seattle. Like his brother , Madan Shrestha, he is a talented artist. 

Story Part 2 ‘Hario Dollara’ by Tsering Lama, Sita Gurung, Prem Gurung, Madan Shrestha, Pushpa Shrestha, AC Sherpa, Mamata Singh

The story continues. The songs depicts Maila’s life story in the US.

Parvati is an awesome dancer. She is dancing in popular Tamang rhythm.

Aug 17th 2002: Himalayan Night in Portland

Over 40 people from Seattle went to Portland to attend Himalayan Night. The culture show was great. Thanks to all the artists who joined from Seattle - Sita Gurung, Tshering Lama, Mamta Singh, Madan Shrestha, Pasang Lama, Sumpurna and Parbati.

July 4th 2002: NSS Basketball team

NSS Basketball team "Yeti" participated at ANA Convention Basketball Tournament, Washington, DC. Players were: Bijit Giri, A C Sherpa, Madan Shrestha, Jyoti Giri, Rojen Gurung, Tirtha Khanal, Bishal Gurung and more. Thanks to all the players.

April 13th 2002 :New Year 2059 celebration and Tribute to "American Peace Corps Volunteers to Nepal"

Nepal Seattle Society wishes you all good health, great happiness and prosperous Nepali New Year 2059! May peace prevail in Nepal !

It was a great night to remember! Nepal Seattle Society celebrated Nepali New Year 2059 honoring "American Peace Corps Volunteers to Nepal". More than 250 people watched an hour and half long exciting Nepali Cultural program, enjoyed delicious food and joined in a grand dance party. For the first time, our Nepali cultural program included Nepali talents invited from outside Washington State. Everyone was fascinated by excellent dance performance by Roji Malakar (Portland, Oregon). Shanta Raut and Ram Khanal from Sanjose, California rocked the stage with Nepali songs "Oinana Oinana" and "Jati maya laye pani". There were excellent performance by many new Nepali talents in Seattle as well as a wonderful dance by 5 year old twins Ravi and Santosh Sharma. The first NSS newsletter "Lali Gurans" was distributed to the guests. NSS T-shirts and certificates were awarded to the artists and volunteers of the organizing committee. The celebration started at 6:00 PM and continued upto midnight.

1. NSS bought a Stereo music system at $1373.50 before the party.
2. We made 200 T-shirts at $974.00. We have sold total of $194.00 only. We highly encourage everyone to purchase our NSS T-shirts by contacting us at nepalseattle@hotmai.com and wear them proudly during future NSS events.
3. We request every members of NSS to renew their membership soon. The membership of those who paid their membership fee last year (2001) will expire on April 30th 2002.
4. More than 200 copies of the first NSS newsletter "Lali gurans" have been distributed in the new year's party. Some copies are also sent to various Nepali organizations and individuals in the US.

This is a popular song from a super hit Nepali movie “Darpan Chayan”. Please welcome Mamta Singh for her first ever dance performance in Seattle.

Nepali Song “Udi Jaun Bhane Jaahajai Chaina” By Nil Bahadur Tilija
Mr. Tilija is a former member of parliament from Myagdi district, Nepal. He is also a talented musician and singer. He is performing for the first time in NSS program.

Nepali Muktak (Short Poem) By Madhu Dahal
Madhu is famous for his wonderful short poems among Nepalese in Seattle.

Nepali National Song “Gaucha geeta Nepali” , Group song
This inspirational song reflects the glory of Nepal. Beautiful slides of Nepal and Nepalese are provided by Nima Sherpa and Anna Hauksdottir.

Folk Dance “Nepali western folk music” By Roji Malakar
She is our invited talent from Portland, Oregon. She has taken part in different Nepali cultural programs around US. She is regarded as among the best dancing talent in the northwest.

Kid Dance: “Jauna thamel ma” by Ravi and Santosh Sharma

Nepali Wedding Music: “Panche Baja”, Group Performance
Panche Baja is one of the most unique Nepali folk music. It is played with special musical instruments like “Sanai” , “Damaha” and “Narsingha”. The music is often played in auspicious occasions like weddings or puja in Nepal.

Modern Dance “Achha Lekin” by Sita Gurung and Madan Kumar Shrestha
Sita is one of the pillars of Nepali cultural program in Seattle. She has performed in almost all of the cultural programs hosted by NSS. Madan is a new energetic talent of our community.

Folk Dance: “Phool ma ramro lalu paate” by Tsering Lama and Mamta Singh
Tsering Lama is a wonderful dancer, well remembered for his disguise as an old man in the last Dashain program. He is also a good painter. He built the miniature Nepali house in the stage and painted the wall painting together with Krishna Gurung. Mamta Singh is joining Tsering in a folk dance Jyaure which says “Lalu paate is the best among flowers..”

Nepali Song: “Gajalule ankha chopne” by Sunil Joshi.

Please welcome our young talents Parbati and Sampurna. This is Parbati’s first ever NSS performance. She is accompanied by Sampurna, who has emerged as a leading new talent in our community since last year.
