| This year, Nepalese and American friends are
going through very hard time. Keeping our tradition of celebrating
Dashain festival alive, Nepal Seattle Society hosted a special
"Dashain Celebration and American Red Cross Fund Raising
Program" in Seattle on Nov 3rd 2001 . The proceeds of the
program is being sent to the American Red Cross for the benefit
of families of Sep 11 victims.
More than 170 people enjoyed wonderful Nepali cultural program,
delicious Nepali food and exciting dance party. Click here to

After the successful conclusion of program, Nepal Seattle Society
raised total of US$1031.97 (One Thousand Thirty One Dollars
and 97 Cents). This money was sent to the American Red Cross
via NAC (Nepalese Americas Council) which is a co-ordinating
body representing various Nepali organizations in the US and
Canada (www.nepalcouncil.org). NAC handed the donations to the
American Red Cross collectively from various Nepali organizations
in the US and Canada. Nepal Seattle Society is also planning
to visit Seattle Mayor to inform him about our fund raising
activity.
We would like to thank all the people who made their kind donations.
We would also like to thank all the people who volunteered and
worked very hard to make this program a grand success.

Traditional Music: “Dashain Dhoon” by Sushil Bogati
“Dhoon” means music in Nepali. This particular “dhoon”
is a very popular tune that is played throughout the dashain
festival all over Nepal. Sushil is a talented local artist.
Modern Dance: “Darpan Chayan” by Smriti Gurung
Smriti is daughter of Mohan Gurung, the founder president of
Nepal Seattle Society. She was 2nd runner up in Miss Nepal–USA
competition held in Philadelphia this year. The song is from
a mega hit Nepali movie.
Modern Song: “Gajalule Ankha Chopne” by Sunil Joshi
and Bhusan Khanal
Sunil is a popular singer among Nepalese community in US. He
along with Bhusan Khanal created "Naulo", a Seattle
based Nepali band. The band has released its first album "Sapani
ma" last year.
Folk Dance: “Tamang Selo” by Sita Gurung and Chiring
Lama
Sita and Chiring are excellent dancers, well known among Nepalese
community here in the Northwest. Their dance belongs to Tamang
tribe, who lives in northern Nepal.
Modern Song: “Badaluko Ghumtole” by Chattra Karki
Chattra is an excellent singer who works as a software engineer
in Kirkland. Please welcome him for his first performance in
Seattle.
Modern Dance: “Damkal Bolai deu” by Smriti Gurung
and Sampurna Prajapati
Smriti is joined by Sampurna for the dance. Please welcome Sampurna
for his first performance in Seattle.

Folk Song: “Dohori Geet” by Group
”Dohori” is a popular folk song duet sung between
group of men and the group of women in rural Nepal. The format
of the song is that of a challenge and a response that goes
back and forth representing satire, flattery and flirtation.

Mr Ranabhat is new to Seattle and we appreciate his eagerness
to perform in Seattle for the first time.
Folk Dance: “Wari Jamuna Pari Jamuna” by Chiring
Lama, Sita Gurung and Pasang Sherpa
This Eastern Nepali folk song has taken Nepal by storm this
year. There are hardly any dance parties in Nepal without this
song played. The song devotes to Goddess Manakamana and portrays
rural Nepali life in simple yet beautifully crafted lyrics.
